Social Action Committee consists of anywhere from 7-10 active volunteers. We are dedicated to performing acts of tikun olum. We organize and participate in a variety of “mitzvahs of the month” throughout the year. These have included our ever growing Yom Kippur food drive to benefit the Hingham and Scituate food pantries, preparing and serving lunch at Father Bill’s shelter in Quincy, and our ever-popular sock drive to benefit other shelters. In addition, we provide babysitting on Christmas Eve at Old Ship Church and organize the health fair and blood drive that occurs in the spring as well as the temple car wash. We currently work with the Jewish Family and Children’s Services in Waltham and are committed to bringing them food on a monthly basis.
Finally, we organize and coordinate mitzvah projects for school age students throughout the year. If you would like to become more involved with your synagogue and are looking for an active group, you are welcome to explore Social Action.
We are always open to new members and we meet on a monthly basis. Contact Brenda Elfman or Lisa Berkin for more information.
