Social Justice Committee Overview

The Social Justice  Committee, headed by Marci Bracken (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), Allyson Gall (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and Naomi Preble (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.), seeks CSS members for both the planning committee and as volunteers during the year. Call or e-mail any one of us to volunteer or talk!

We will focus primarily on Food Security and Gun Education/School Safety issues in the coming year, in addition we will also sponsor Mitzvah Day, participate in the Boston Pride March and collect wool socks for the homeless.

On food security issues, we will expand collection of food through communication with all members and school children in a variety of ways, using signs, flyers, contests, news reports, 2 collection bins near the front door and school entry.  Our aim is to collect food weekly in addition to our Yom Kippur, Thanksgiving, Purim and Mitzvah Day food drives.  We will again sponsor the food assembly project on Mitzvah Day and raise the $2500 for cost of supplies (using $500 from our budget).  We will continue to pick up food at Trader Joe’s to deliver to pantries and hope to recruit some new volunteers.  We will sponsor two programs for teens during Monday night classtime in December and one for adults on Dec. 9th on facts about hunger in MA and US and ways to advocate.

On gun education/school safety issues we will sponsor two programs for teens in March and one for adults also in March. And, we will recruit a few people to actually visit our legislators to advocate.

Mitzvah Day is May 5. We hope for the same terrific participation as last year (over 225 people attended!) and also plan to sponsor a Blood Drive and a session on Opioid Addiction that day.

Most importanty, we will communicate as much as possible with all that we are doing! One hour or 100 hours, $1.00 or $1000.00 …. we welcome your involvement on any of the many Social Justice issues we plan to address!
