Do you shop on the internet? Log onto www.shopfortzedakah.com and benefit Sha'aray Shalom. That's right! Do some shopping at any of the over 200 internet merchants and name the Temple as your designated charity. Some of the merchants include Dell, Sports Authority, Old Navy, OfficeMax, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, N.Y. Times, Gap, Brooks Brothers, Best Buy, My Kosher Market, CVS, and Kay Bee Toys to name a few. Through this website you are connected to each merchant, paying the same price as if you logged on directly. A portion of the proceeds from each sale are donated back to the Temple with no risk or minimizing purchase. So whether you are shopping for a special gift for someone or purchasing office supplies for your business, you can give a little tzedakah each time. Get started today! If you have any questions call Barbara Dine at 781-749-8103. Return to Ongoing Activities main menu

Though this has not been our typical New England summer, we hope that you had an opportunity to enjoy nature and the treats that a summer break can bring. September means back to school for the kids and preparation for the New Year. Cindy and I look forward to building upon our first year as your social action co-chair and, with your help, provide even greater opportunities for you to become involved in the greater Boston community. The first big event of the year is the Yom Kippur food drive. While we realize the high prices at the pump have impacted everyone’s budgets and that food prices at the grocery store can be shocking, this means that our collection to fill the food pantries of Hingham and Scituate take on an even greater urgency. We know you will continue your incredible generosity. Our congregation also will be called upon to support The Family Table program and we will need to supply toilet paper and a variety of canned/dried beans for our January 11, 2009 distribution date. Please help us service those Jewish families in need with your donations and time. Naturally, we look forward to meeting and working directly with you. It is not too early to think about Mitzvah Day when we need your fresh ideas and energy to work wonders in our local community. As we have learned from this summer, weather doesn’t always cooperate; please suggest activities for Mitzvah Day that will involve families and won’t be impacted by inclement weather. We hope that you will review the schedule in the High Holy Days Handbook and contact us to volunteer for specific events. Please let us know if you have participated in this event before, and if you would be willing to assist with coordination of this project. Whether this is your first time volunteering or you are a regular participant, we need you! We look forward to hearing from you. Cindy McDonald Judy Kalla Return to Ongoing Activities main menu
